Established in 1999, the Graduate Program in Energy Engineering has consolidated its position over the years as an important center for academic education, research, technological development, and innovation in the energy field. Since its creation, the Program has graduated more than 350 master’s students, contributing to the qualification of professionals and researchers and to scientific and technological development in the energy sector.

The Program currently has 19 faculty members, according to its most recent faculty composition, including 7 CNPq Research Productivity (PQ) fellows, demonstrating the strong involvement of its faculty in Brazil’s national research system.

The Program’s scientific output has significant national and international reach. Its faculty has an average h-index of approximately 18.5 to 19 in the Scopus database, with a maximum h-index of 50, reflecting the relevance and impact of a significant portion of the scientific research developed within the Program.

In the area of applied research, innovation, and technological development, the Program also has a consistent track record of securing and carrying out research projects. Since 2010, Research and Development (R&D) projects totaling more than BRL 15 million have been developed, strengthening the integration between the university, the productive sector, and strategic demands related to energy.

Internationalization is also one of the Program’s key areas of activity. Throughout its history, the Program has developed two projects funded by the European Union, in addition to participating in international scientific cooperation initiatives through networks such as CYTED and BRICS. These activities have expanded the international engagement of faculty members and researchers and fostered collaboration with institutions abroad.

The results achieved by the Program’s alumni also demonstrate its contribution to the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge. In a historical survey involving 43 alumni, 29 (67%) were found to have publications associated with their master’s dissertations. In the same survey, 46.3% of the publications analyzed were among the top 10% of the most-cited journals, according to the criteria adopted in the assessment used in the proposal.

More recently, between 2021 and 2023, the Program produced approximately 3.30 high-stratum articles per permanent faculty member per year, demonstrating the capacity of its faculty to produce high-quality scientific knowledge with relevance to the field of Energy Engineering.

Taken together, these indicators demonstrate a trajectory characterized by the training of highly qualified professionals, high-impact scientific production, research and development projects, technological innovation, and national and international cooperation, consolidating the Program as an important center for advanced education and research in Energy Engineering.
